KAMPALA
CITY TOUR (FULL
DAY CITY TOUR) Having derived
its name from the Impala animal, the rapidly growing
city of Kampala is not only the National Political
Capital, but also the Country’s most important
business, leisure and education centre with several
academic institutions including the largest University,
Makerere University. The City is blessed with a moderate
high altitude climate and is an ideal springboard
from which to explore this magical Pearl of Africa.
Therefore, be it the people, culture, history, spirit,
hospitality, the warmth and colours, nothing is quite
what you expect in Kampala!
Get ready to see traffic jams in peak hour traffic,
sidewalks littered with scurrying pedestrians and
high rising office buildings. The City has a satisfyingly
organic shape dictated by the seven hills onto which
it lies and boasts a range of Hotels, Theatres, Galleries,
Cultural, Historical and Religious worship places.
The neat and compact city centre can easily be explored
on foot, while nearby, the Craft Village at National
Theatre is filled with souvenir stalls displaying
a wide range of executed local handicrafts ranging
from ceramics and basketry to traditional wood carvings
and paintings. The historical burial ground of the
Buganda Kings known as Kasubi Tombs is well worth
a visit, and one can also explore Uganda Museum which
houses perhaps the finest historical and traditional
artefacts plus ethnographic collection in East Africa.
More emotional is the visit to the Uganda Martyrs’
Shrine in Namugongo where the Uganda Martyrs’
were murdered and are always remembered every 3rd
of June. Other places to visit include the Owino Market,
Bahai Temple, Kabaka’s Lake and Palace among
others.
